The Formula Suzuki Series is a new open wheeler championship started by long time Hydraulink associate Kevin Varney. He is currently running two cars that are sponsored by Hydraulink.
The objective of the Formula Suzuki Series is to give up and coming
drivers the opportunity to compete in a professional motorsport
environment. One that is run on an equal basis without the burden of
the high costs normally associated with buying and running a fast F3
style car.
With a concept designed to provide close racing between drivers, it is
based on in-car performance – everything else is equal. This is a
single-make chassis formula, offering power of over 400hp per ton from
a sealed supplied engine package. It is the driver’s skill that makes
the difference - not the size of the bank balance.
This high-performance car has been designed and developed by Monster Tajima of Suzuki Motorsport.
Powered by the world’s fastest production motorcycle engine, the Suzuki
‘Hayabusa’, it therefore needs no further performance enhancing
modifications.
Racing will be in a tightly controlled class, promoted and organised by GP Racing, and backed by Suzuki New Zealand.
Given the high levels of performance, the Formula Suzuki has
also been designed for affordability, both with purchase price and
running costs in mind.
Some measures taken to control costs are:
Low initial purchase price
Spare parts costs kept low by the series organizers & Suzuki NZ
Single chassis formula (Suzuki Motorsport)
Single engine (GSX 1300R ‘Hayabusa’)
Sealed engines utilising MSNZ Seals
Limited number of set-up parameters for suspension and aerodynamics
