25 Years with Hydraulink: A Story of Growth, Trust, and Shared Value

In celebration of our 80th anniversary, we're highlighting the people and businesses that make up the heart of our network. Today, we're shining a light on Gisborne Hydraulic Services Ltd, one of our distributors who has been with us for over 25 years!

How did your relationship with Hydraulink begin?

Twenty-five years ago, we launched Gisborne Hydraulic Services Ltd as a small, ambitious business. From day one, Hydraulink believed in us. Their support, resources, and guidance have been instrumental in our journey from a new operation to a trusted name in fluid power in the region. We've grown together.

 

What’s changed over the years, and what’s stayed the same?

The changes have all been positive—business growth, technical support, and development opportunities have continued to evolve. What hasn’t changed is Hydraulink’s culture: the personal approach, the strong relationships, and the consistent values. If anything, those have only grown stronger.

 

How has being part of the Hydraulink network supported your business?

“You don’t know what you don’t know”—and Hydraulink has always been there to bridge that gap. They bring a deep well of knowledge, not just in fluid power, but in business development. They’ve freely shared insights that have helped us expand our capabilities and sharpen our strategy.

 

What sets your business apart in your region or industry?

We’re proud to be locally owned and operated—and to be part of a network that is NZ owned and run. We’re one of the few companies in New Zealand with staff who have achieved the new NZQA Level 3 qualification in Fluid Power. That combination of local insight, national backing, and professional development sets us apart.

 

Why have you continued to choose Hydraulink?

Hydraulink provides more than products—they offer real partnership. They challenge us to be better and back that up with tangible support. It's that rare combination of encouragement and accountability that makes all the difference.

 

Why do customers trust you, and how does the Hydraulink brand support that?

Trust comes from consistency. We've been in the market a long time, we’re rooted in the local community, and we stand behind the work we do. The Hydraulink brand reinforces that with its reputation for quality, reliability, and service.

 

Any standout moments, milestones, or challenges you’ve overcome?

Being a woman in this industry has brought its own unique challenges—but those were mostly mental barriers. Hydraulink and the broader industry have been nothing but supportive. That support gave me the confidence to help found the NZ Fluid Power Association, serve as its first Chairwoman, and play a key role in the development and national adoption of the NZQA Level 3 Fluid Power qualification.

What does 80 years of Hydraulink mean to you and your business? It’s a legacy we’re proud to be part of. Eighty years is a testament to strength, resilience, and

shared vision. For us, it means being part of something bigger—an enduring brand that empowers local businesses to grow and lead in their own communities.
